The Magic Valley School of Performing Arts presents Peter and the Starcatcher this June 13-15.

Tony-winning Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, the play was conceived for the stage by directors, Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, and written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair… and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. About Drama A.C.T.

Recognizing the variety of gifts and talents given to us by God, we All Come Together for the love of acting and performing. Because every production is a working theater class, your child(ren) will learn all aspects of a drama production; they will help build sets, learn lines, receive acting direction and rehearse choreography. By performance time, they will have a great understanding of everything that goes into a drama production.

Tryouts are held for lead roles, but all cast members have a stage role of some type in the production. Rehearsals begin in September and the production is generally in January. Drama is open to all students K5 through senior high, and casts are split into Junior and Senior troupes. This is a great opportunity for your child to experience live theatre…maybe for the first time!

Corrine Benavides

School Director

I have been involved in the arts almost all of my life, from pursuing my own talents in choir, theater, and visual arts, to observing others showcase their talents. Through my younger years, high school, and college years, the arts are something that I have always found time for. I moved to Twin Falls, Idaho with my husband Johnny in 2014. He and I have been married for 11 years and our little family includes our cocker spaniel Liya.

Being on MSVPA board for the last year and half has been such a great opportunity, but there was an underlying passion to see our program built and supported more. There is much potential and I am excited to impact and support that. What is most important to me is helping the kids of Magic Valley to find their talents and give them venues in which they can grow those talents. I have a passion for kids and for giving them opportunities to give glory to God and growing the talents that He as given them.
